Joel Berry II will forever be a household name for Tar Heel fans. The Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA Championship Game 2017 has decided to step away from basketball and pursue other opportunities outside of basketball.
Joel spoke to Ceiling is the Roof and announced:
“It has been on my mind a while, but I decided to step away from basketball and pursue other opportunities outside of basketball. Huge decision, but so happy with it. I feel great! I know I’ll miss it, but I’m ready for what’s next.”Joel Berry speaking to Ceiling is the Roof about his retirement
I sat down with Joel Berry II on Instagram Live on Tuesday evening, to talk about his decision and looked back on his basketball career. Watch the full interview here:
I asked Joel does he have a plan for what’s next on the Instagram Live and he gave a little tease about his next chapter:
“Tar Heel fans might see me back on TV again soon, I’ll leave it at that.”Joel Berry
Joel announced that he will be back on the Ceiling is the Roof Podcast this current season to talk more about the current Tar Heels.
Since graduating from Chapel Hill and leading UNC to their sixth title, Berry went undrafted in the NBA Draft 2018 and has been grinding in the G-League since 2018 at the South Bay Lakers and Greensboro Swarm. Berry’s most recent adventure was in Turkey playing for one of the top teams in the country, Besiktas.
Joel announced in February that him and his wife, Kelsey, are expecting their first baby and their baby girl is due in the fall.
I know all the Tar Heel Nation will remember Joel’s playing days with the fondest memories and very excited to see what is next for him.
Joel joined the Ceiling is the Roof Podcast in May, little did we know that it was his last interview as a professional basketball player, although he has assured me he will be on the show again.
