Marcus Paige vs Kennedy Meeks in France

In September, Marcus Paige and Kennedy Meeks signed for their new teams in France. Paige signed for Orléans Loiret and Meeks signed for Cholet Basket and it didn’t take them long to face up against each other, with the two teams going to battle this Saturday and Tar Heel International brings the game recap.

Paige played for KK Partizan for three seasons with multiple appearances in the EuroCup. If you watched Paige last season, it would be like he was still playing NC State and dominated offensively. Paige broke the club’s record last season for three-pointers in a game.

Meeks has been playing professionally in Asia for the past few seasons with stops in Japan and South Korea. Meeks had a great season during 2019/20, playing in Japan for Levanga Hokkaido and averaged over 20 PPG and 10 RPG. Last season, Meeks played in South Korea for two teams but couldn’t reach the numbers he did the year before. From speaking with Kennedy in the off-season, he’s ready for a big season ahead.

Kennedy Meeks spoke to Tar Heel International before the game about facing his former teammate:

“Yeah I’m looking forward to it, Marcus can remember how I get down. It’s going to be a great game! “

Orléans Loiret (0-1) hosted Cholet Basket (1-1) and both teams came out aggressive with a few trips to the foul line each. Paige started the game for Orléans Loiret, with Meeks coming off the bench early in the first quarter.

Cholet Basket led most of the first quarter including a field goal from Kennedy, but a late surge from Orléans Loiret and 3 assists from Marcus gave the home side a 23-18 lead after the first quarter. Orléans extended their lead before the half with 5 points coming from Marcus Paige. Orléans led 45-32 to close out the second quarter.

In the second half, we saw Marcus Paige turn up the gas offensively with the all-time leading 3 point scorer for the University of North Carolina knocked down a couple field goals from behind the arc. Kennedy got more court time during the second half and was doing what he does best, crashing the boards and provided his team with a couple field goals.

Closing into the fourth quarter and Cholet Basket was closing the gap to Orléans Loiret but Marcus Paige’s team held on to take the 88-81 win and his team’s first win of the season. Paige led his team in minutes played and helped get the win on both ends of the court with 13 points and 5 steals in the game.

Kennedy Meeks played 16 minutes, had 5 points and 5 rebounds.

Marcus Paige played 37 minutes, had 13 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 5 steals.
