Joel Berry II will be keeping a close eye on the University of North Carolina Basketball Team this season, but for different reasons compared to previous seasons. This summer, Joel packed away his sneakers to pick up a microphone in his new role with the ACC Network as a Sports Analyst.
UNC Basketball hosted Elizabeth City State University on Friday night and it was the first time we were able to see the new-look Tar Heels take the floor. UNC took the 83-55 win with Dawson Garcia, Armando Bacot and Brady Manek combining for 51 points.
Obviously there was some first half jitters that caused too many turnovers in the first half. It was the first time playing in front of a large crowd at home since March 2020.
University of North Carolina have so many scoring options and they will shoot A LOT of three’s this season. Offensive rebounding is a tradition of UNC and is still key, even with a revamped offense.
Dawson Garcia, Brady Manek and Justin McKoy are already making a huge impact after transferring in this past summer.
I loved the defense intensity coming out of half-time. Carolina has many weapons in the front and back court. The Tar Heels still have to cut down on the turnovers and the guards need to continue to play fast, while under control.
We see that Carolina are obviously very talented with tons of versatility. This revamped offense will shoot so many 3’s this season with the ability of our new transfer big-men to step outside.
You can see the development already of Caleb Love and R.J. Davis. Like Coach Williams, Coach Davis continues the play of two point guards, which will result in the tempo being fast with Davis or Love being able to catch the outlet and push it up.
I love how this team looks and they are a really scary team with the amount of talent and scoring options they have.
